Welcome to the City of Santa Rosa, New Mexico

Welcome to Santa Rosa, the Oasis on Route 66 and Jewel of New Mexico. Santa Rosa is a beautiful small city with great recreational facilities; home of the Blue Hole, an artesian, bell-shaped lake, crystal clear blue water, crisp 61 degrees year round and 91' feet deep. Santa Rosa has the best selection fishing, boating, scuba diving, softball, outdoor summer activities and wind surfing in New Mexico and soon will have the largest waterslides in the state.

Our business-friendly approach and our efforts to support our present businesses and our open arm policy to new future employers to our community make Santa Rosa, The City of Natural Lakes, a great place for business. We have 2 major fiber optics intra-state lines through Santa Rosa. We offer state of the art communications, DSL, T-1 Lines at request. Our schools were the first school district in the state to offer the Internet from K-12. Our educational facilities are also some of the best in the State. Our schools have continually met our AYP and our national scores continue to rise.

Our future construction of a new $21 million dollar hospital and clinic will meet and exceed our health care needs. Our exciting "Moving Santa Rosa Forward" a $15 million downtown renovation remodel of the historic Ilfeld/Johnson Warehouse, a Convention Center, a Dive Training Center, a new Softball Complex, relocation of City Hall as adaptive re-use in a historic building, doubling as a community center, we believe, is an aggressive business and cultural approach to create a community of opportunity for Santa Rosa’s future.

City of Natural Lakes!

Here amid the red mesas of northeast New Mexico, our town is a startling oasis with an array of spring-fed lakes which provide recreation for visitors and locals alike:
  • Blue Hole is famous for scuba diving.
  • Santa Rosa Lake State Park is excellent for boating, water skiing, and fishing.
  • Park Lake has fun for the whole family with swimming, pedal boats, and playground activities.
  • Perch Lake is the place for swimming, fishing, and diving.
It’s well known that Santa Rosa offers cool things for water lovers. But history buffs and shutterbugs looking for unusual shots will also be rewarded in our community. Be sure your camera’s charged before you set out to discover our past and see all the new development initiatives we have going:
  • Historic Route 66 is still alive with an auto museum and well-preserved neon from the ‘30s to ‘60s.
  • MainStreet/4th Street is being brought back to the glory of the railroad era.
  • Ilfeld Warehouse, once a center of regional commerce is being restored for new uses.
  • The completion of the Courthouse Square landscape project will return many community activities and events to MainStreet and the historic Court House will once again find use as the center of county government.
If you have questions on finding your way around Santa Rosa, ask the experts at our visitor center, located temporarily in City Hall at 244 South 4th Str. In 2009 it will move to the refurbished Ilfeld Warehouse on Main Street by the railway track.
